Playpen is an educational and fun game intended for toddlers and young children ages 21 months to 8 years old. The game is based on modifications of well-known scientific paradigms for training cognitive abilities and was developed by a professional cognitive psychologist.
Background:
The neuronal connectivity within the human brain develops throughout our lives.
It has been suggested that the most critical time in which substantially more new connections are made is during a humans first years.
Studies on the human brain from both the biological neural point of view and the behavioral cognitive point of view suggest that training the brain can increase and develop its level of performance.
The Game:
Playpen is a tool developed by a cognitive psychology scientist. Its aim is to help your child practice different cognitive abilities. We have carefully designed stimuli that are not overwhelming for this specific age group and are both challenging and fun for the young gamer.
The game currently has 4 levels of difficulty. The first 3 are aimed at challenging a toddler according to their cognitive ability and can also be used to teach the young players how to play the game and advance in the levels. The last level is intended for older children and even grownups will find it challenging.
The cognitive abilities Playpen is designed to practice are:
-Sustained Attention
-Focused Attention
-Rule Learning
-Hand-Eye Coordination
Scores:
Once the player is done playing the game, a summary page will show scores in each cognitive ability and a success rate. Each score is in the range of 0-100. On this page you will also be given information on where in the brain the cognitive tasks take place and some interesting scientific anecdotes about each one.
We hope you and your child will both benefit and enjoy playing Playpen.
